Life in DC

I've been in Washington DC for over a month now and am slowly getting used to life here. I have found an apartment and have started looking for furniture etc to furnish my apartment. So far, I have bought towels, sheets for the bed, an air bed (for people visiting), pots and pans for cooking (stainless steel ones with glass domes for lids), German knives and little things like a water filter, a rice cooker etc.

I move into my apartment on the 15th and thanks to the grace period I have at my temporary housing, I can slowly setup the place. I even found a couple of Target stores around here. As I was wandering back from the Target store last night, I happened to see a sign that still makes no sense to me. So, I took out my trusty Blackberry Pearl and took a picture of it in the fading light. If you know what the sign means, leave a comment.

More on this wonderful saga later. For now, I have to get back to work.

Ah, you have discovered an artifact of WMATA culture. Kiss and Ride is the area near a metro stop where you are dropped off by a loved one to continue your commute by public transportation. Park and Ride is a parking lot where you park your car to continue your commute by metro.

How to make a good thing go bad quickly in tech

I haven't written a work related post in what seems like ages. I am currently living through the aftermath of a third M&A in my career. The company I currently work for is in its third incarnation - from a small tech startup 15 or so years ago to something that was sold to a large software company - one of those lumbering giants that have their hands in all kinds of technology driven fields - where they invested sufficiently in it to grow it in its current location - to now finally being acquired by an even larger technology company - one that its hands in all kinds of technology fields.I came along post the second phase but I have seen 2 other US tech company acquisitions, one that made me quit fast and the other that took me around the world but made me leave anyway.
